If you are a guy, I am sure that when you saw the heading of this article you must have been so shocked you probably feel off a chair. This news must be one that probably made you lose your appetite especially if you didn’t know about the fact that men actually, actually have breast cancer.
Most of my guy friends before they knew that breast cancer affected men would always act uninterested when I talked about the fact that Pink (or pink ribbon) is used to create awareness for breast cancer. They always said that pink is a typical color for women (even though that is not necessarily true). When they heard that they can also get breast cancer, they were not too happy.
Well, it seems that due to the fact that the breasts of both men and women have identical tissues both men and women are at risk of developing breast cancer. The cancerous cells usually originate in the cells of the ducts but it can at times originate from the lobules.
According to research, it has been estimated that approximately 1,700 men are going to be diagnosed with breast cancer and about 450 will die if they are not diagnosed early. The percentage is small compared to that in females but it is still significant for those that are affected.
Therefore it is essential that men should also try to give themselves breast self examinations and take notice of any unusual changes in their breasts. They should report any changes that they observe to their physicians.
Factors that might increase the risk of breast cancer include too much alcohol consumption and obesity. Though women are believed to be more prone than men because of the breast of women constantly undergoes various changes due to growth changing hormones.
As time goes on, many scientists and doctors continue to dedicate themselves to researching on breast cancer and how to effectively treat this disease. Hopefully very soon they would find better and effective ways to cure breast cancer.
Remember that October is the month dedicated to creating awareness about breast cancer and that pink is the official colour for breast cancer. Try to help support initiatives that are done to raise money for researches and breast cancer awareness initiatives. You won’t be sorry.
Well, that is all for now.
Remain beautifully blessed.
Your girl, Bim nubi.
